Did you know the scallop shell is the symbol of a pilgrim. Before we had trains and planes and cars, the pilgrims would walk to Santiago and then have to walk all the way back home. They would bring a scallop shell from the ocean in Finnesterra (the end of the world) to prove they walked the entire way. It was a great honour to walk the Camino then as it is now. You will see the scallop shell symbol and yellow arrows along the way.
