Barefooting and the Wim Hof Method
For the last 9 years Sue has been living a barefoot lifestyle. She guides and teaches Barefoot Healing workshops, and loves to walk the Camino barefoot with her groups and teaches her Wim Hof Method Students all about barefooting as the foundation to mindset and awareness. Her recently released a book called How to Wear Bare Feet provides insights and stories about how to integrate Barefooting into your life. Over the last year, Sue has also been studying with Wim Hof, known as the Iceman, and his senior Instructors to learn the method. Wim was made famous for climbing Everest in shorts and being immersed in ice water for almost 2 hours and for all the scientific studies he participated in to prove we have access to our autonomic nervous system. He is also a barefooter and that’s what drew him to Sue’s attention.
Sue began training by completing the 10 Week On-Line Video Course and the 10 Week Fundamentals Course and continued her own practice in 2016. In December 2017, she traveled to Poland to complete the Wim Hof Winter Expedition. It involved an intensive 5-day program in breathwork, cold water training and exercising willpower/commitment. The goal was to learn the science behind the method and to learn how to access the Inner Fire we each have and how we can command our autonomous nervous system to control blood flow in our body to maintain heat in extremely cold conditions. This a transferable skill and applies to learning how to be happy, healthy and strong.
On the final day, the group of 60 participants walked for 2 1/2 hours up Mount Sniezka to an altitude of 1600 meters/5300 feet, in shorts and a tank top. It was a special moment in her life. By deciding to live outside of a comfort zone that was more uncomfortable than most people’s, Sue decided to set a challenging goal, be educated and train for it and then by accomplishing the feat, the result was life-changing and inspirational. She not only met the challenge but on the journey found a connection with the universe and Mother Nature that was soul-centered.
